The Sequel Review - King's Head Theatre

Great new writing with a quirky cast of characters

The Sequel

⭐⭐⭐⭐

What's it about

A novelist returns to the café that inspired her breakout book—only to find the people she once turned into characters are still living with the consequences. What unfolds is a darkly funny, slightly absurd look at authorship, ego and the blurred line between real life and fiction.

What we loved

A sharply written, genuinely funny script that lands laugh-out-loud moments. The quirky tone is consistent and confident. Standout performance of Julia Pilkington as Martha. The live band and original score adds a cinematic layer.

Anything we'd change

It's a tight one-act, minor trimming would sharpen the pace even further.

Why you should see it

Clever, quirky and refreshingly different—this is a smart piece of theatre from a talented emerging writer and creative team.

Who would love this

Fans of dark humour, offbeat storytelling and plays that don't take themselves too seriously. Anyone looking for a fun night at the theatre.
